Being a photographer, I am obviously drawn to still photos, but in the past year or so, I keep finding myself wanting to shoot moving images. But I didn’t know anything about creating video. Then in one of the many fabulous photography groups on Facebook, I heard raving reviews about Emily Mitchell with Everyday Film School. And I’m so glad I did, because creating this personal film project, created a new eagerness and excitement in me.
Some of you may know that 10 months ago, I became a wife and mom on the same day. (I should probably create a post with the beautiful story, about how the Lord brought us together, but for now, a quick summary will have to do). My incredible husband became a widower after his first wife died shortly after the birth of their daughter.
Becoming a mom, in this way, to a 6 (now 7) year old, is complex, and I would be amiss to say it’s been easy. But even in the complexities, the Lord is making it quite a beautiful experience. A story of hope and redemption continues to unfold. And He reminds us that He does fulfill His promises. And He does set the lonely in families (Psalm 68:6). Not only that, but He restores and redeems. He heals, hears, and sees.
What an honor it is to be entrusted to parent this joy-filled daughter, with my devoted and tender-hearted husband. This daughter of mine has fully embraced me and freely calls me ‘Mommy’. Her acceptance of me is humbling. This quote says it best:
“A child born to another woman calls me Mommy. The magnitude of that tragedy and the depth of that privilege are not lost on me.” -Jody Landers
